WABCO adds three new functions to TrailerGUARD system

ABR Staff Writer Published 09 June 2011

WABCO Holdings, a tier-one supplier to the commercial vehicle industry, has added three new functions to its TrailerGUARD system, a telematics technology for trailer fleet management.

TrailerGUARD combines telematics with diagnosis of the vehicle's various operating data and also locates a vehicle in real time, allowing optimized utilization of each trailer.

The company said that with a simple internet portal, fleet managers can monitor trailer doors, tire pressure and axle load, among other operating information.

TrailerGUARD's new functions include: Electronic Braking System (EBS) advanced which tracks EBS warning lamps in the vehicle's cabin; Roll Stability Support (RSS) which shows when and how many times RSS has been required to stabilize the vehicle against rollover; and Operating Data Recorder which allows analysis of the driver's performance as well as the trailer's utilization.

With its new functions, fleet managers can identify trailers that require service through the portal's display of warning lamps indicating any errors in the trailer's Electronic Braking System (EBS), which allow rapid intervention, either remote or on-site, to ensure compliance with road regulations.

The company said that operators can also monitor an individual's driving behavior to confirm compliance with the fleet's safety policy through the portal's display of near-rollover alerts and by downloading EBS operating data.

TrailerGUARD also alerts fleet operators to any critical situations, enabling appropriate and timely action such as sending an alarm via text message (SMS) to the driver.

WABCO VP of trailer systems and aftermarket Nick Rens said TrailerGuard is the industry's only system which allows operators to remotely look into the electronic braking system and remotely support the driver to remain compliant with road safety regulations and also reduces the trailer's downtime due to standing still in the workshop.

"Driven by our passion for innovation, we continue to help customers to quantify utilization of their assets, enabling transport professionals to optimize vehicle efficiency and better assess future investments," Rens said.
