Canada Post To Upgrade Fleet With Ford Transit Connect Vans
Canada Post, nation's primary postal operator, has selected Ford Transit Connect, a compact van, to replace the former's aging national fleet of vehicles and modernize its business. Canada post will buy 1,175 such vans from Ford Europe in 2010.
Ford said that the van meets Canada Post's needs such as environmental impact, employee health and safety requirements, performance, capacity and total lifecycle costs including purchase, fuel consumption and maintenance.
The company further claims that the vehicle is is well-suited for Canadian roads and winters, and is used by a number of Post Offices around the world.
The Ford Transit Connect features a standard 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine and automatic transmission and delivers best-in-class fuel economy of 30 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, the company said.
David Mondragon, president and CEO at Ford of Canada, said: The versatility of the vehicle will allow employees to work more efficiently, and the fuel economy delivered by the Transit Connect will help bring Canada Post one step closer to achieving important environmental goals.
Bill Michalopulos, general manager of Sourcing at Canada Post, said: It will help our efforts to modernize our operations as we introduce motorization to our delivery routes.
